Which Mesh Is Right for My Project?

GP Flex is our heavy-duty product, rated for permanent vehicle access, agricultural machinery, and high-load commercial applications. Turf Reinforcement is standard duty, suitable for pedestrian paths, light vehicle traffic, and residential overflow parking. If you need to drive a truck over it daily, choose GP Flex. If it's occasional cars or foot traffic, Turf Reinforcement handles it well.

Trackway is the right choice for heavy construction equipment. It's rated for up to 100 vehicle moves per day, works with both wheeled and tracked vehicles, and is designed to be deployed and removed between sites. GP Flex is suitable for lighter construction vehicle access where a permanent solution is acceptable.

Yes — GP Flex and Turf Reinforcement both work across pet areas and vehicle use. For a residential backyard with occasional car parking and a dog run, Turf Reinforcement or Yard Protection handle both well. For heavy daily vehicle traffic and a dog area in the same space, GP Flex is the stronger choice.

Product choice should be based on both soil type and traffic frequency. On firm or hard soil, most products perform well. On soft or stiff soil, Trackway is recommended for permanent vehicle use. Emergency or single-use access on any soil type can be handled by Keep-It-Green or GP Flex. Contact our helpline at 1-800-356-8495 for site-specific product selection guidance.
Installation & Setup FAQs

How to Lay Grass Protection Mesh

Most residential installations are completed in a single afternoon. Commercial or large-scale installations may take a day or more depending on site size. No machinery or groundworks are required — just basic hand tools and Tenax fixing pins.

Yes. Mesh can be installed on freshly seeded surfaces as well as existing grass. For new seedings, lay the mesh over seeded topsoil and allow grass to establish through the apertures. Traffic should not be allowed until grass has grown to 1.5 inches and been mowed twice.

Pins should be placed every 3 feet in all directions, with extra pins along all edges and at any overlapping seams. For a standard 6.7' x 100' roll, plan for approximately 200–250 pins. Pins are sold separately as Item # 2A060016.

Yes. All Tenax mesh products can be cut to size or shape using a utility knife, heavy-duty scissors, or a circular saw. This makes them suitable for irregular areas, curved pathways, and awkward gate entrances.

How Does It Hold Up?

Load capacity varies by product. GP Flex handles regular vehicle and agricultural machinery use permanently. Trackway is rated for up to 100 vehicle moves per day including tracked vehicles. Turf Reinforcement and Keep-It-Green are suitable for cars and lightweight trucks. Yard Protection handles occasional residential vehicle use. See the Spec Sheet Library for full load ratings.

Until grass has grown through and established, the mesh surface can be slippery when wet. Once fully established, grass provides natural traction — comparable to or better than wet asphalt. Take care during the establishment period, particularly with spikeed footwear such as golf shoes or cleats.

All Tenax mesh products are UV-stabilized HDPE and engineered for permanent outdoor use. They won't rust, rot, or corrode. Properly installed mesh lasts for years under regular traffic — the grass regenerates naturally and the mesh requires no replacement.

Tenax mesh products are designed for flat or gently sloping surfaces. For steep terrain, consult our technical team before installation to discuss ground preparation and anchoring requirements.
Maintenance & Safety FAQs

Ongoing Care and Safe Use

Yes. Once grass has grown through and established, the mesh sits below the grass surface and your mower passes right over without catching or causing damage. Regular mowing keeps the grass thick, healthy, and competitive against weeds.

Yes. All Tenax mesh products are manufactured from non-toxic HDPE — safe for dogs, horses, livestock, children, and wildlife in any outdoor environment. The mesh is also resistant to urine, fertilizers, and common farm and lawn chemicals.

In pet and livestock areas, surface waste can be removed the same way you would in a normal paddock or dog run. The mesh can also be hosed down. For Trackway panels used on construction sites, pressure washing before redeployment removes mud and debris efficiently.

Regular mowing controls weeds just like a normal lawn. The dense, established grass encouraged by the mesh naturally outcompetes most weed growth. Occasional spot treatment handles any stubborn growth.
